At Cowboys Armory, we believe in making your firearm journey simple, safe, and transparent. Whether you’re a first-time buyer or a long-time enthusiast, here are answers to the most common questions we get in-store, over the phone, and online.

FIREARM PURCHASING

You must be 21 or older to purchase a handgun, and 18 or older for a rifle or shotgun. A valid, government-issued photo ID is required. No license or permit is needed for most purchases in Texas.

Yes. All firearm sales are subject to a federal NICS background check, unless you present a valid Texas License to Carry (LTC), which exempts you from the check.

Absolutely. Just have it shipped to our FFL address, and we’ll handle the transfer process for you. Standard FFL transfer fees apply.

 

Yes. We carry a wide selection of both new and pre-owned firearms. Our used inventory is carefully inspected for quality, offering great value for all types of shooters.

Give us a call! We’re happy to put a firearm on hold for a short time while you make arrangements to visit and complete your purchase.

Firearm Transfers

Yes. We gladly accept inbound FFL transfers. Please have the seller send us their FFL and your contact information. We’ll notify you when your firearm arrives and is ready for pickup.

A valid photo ID that matches the shipping information. You’ll fill out a 4473 form, and we’ll perform a background check unless you have an LTC.

Our standard FFL transfer fee is [$XX].

 

Yes. We can facilitate private-party transfers to ensure everything is done legally and safely. Both parties must present valid photo IDs, and the recipient must pass a background check.

We typically hold transfers for up to 30 days. Please contact us if you need additional time — unclaimed items may be subject to storage fees.

GUNSMITHING & CUSTOM BUILDS

Absolutely. We work on most makes and models, regardless of where you bought them.

It depends on the job. Minor installs or sight work can be same-day or 1–2 days. Larger repairs, custom builds, or Cerakote can take 1–2 weeks depending on workload and parts.

Yes. We’re happy to install parts you provide — we’ll also inspect them to ensure proper fit and safety.

 

Yes. We build AR platforms, pistols, rifles, and tactical shotguns from scratch, customized to your specs. Visit our Custom Builds page for more info.

Yes. We offer Cerakote in a variety of colors and patterns — from solid coats to camo and specialty designs. It’s a great way to add both durability and personal style to your firearm.

GUN TRAINING

Yes. We offer hands-on training led by a seasoned Army veteran, tailored for all skill levels — from first-time shooters to advanced. Sessions focus on safety, confidence, and real-world skills.

Not at all. We can provide firearms during training sessions, or you’re welcome to train with your own. Just let us know ahead of time so we can prepare the right setup for you.

Just give us a call or stop by the shop to book a time. We offer flexible scheduling throughout the week, and we’ll work with you to find a time that fits.

 

Nope! Our training is open to everyone — no license required. We focus on safe handling and responsible ownership, whether you’re training for self-defense, carry, or general confidence.

We offer one-on-one instruction, small group sessions, and focused training on handgun fundamentals, defensive shooting, safe handling, and more. Courses are tailored to your comfort level and goals.

GUN CLEANING

Yes. We offer professional in-house cleaning for most handguns, rifles, and shotguns. From routine maintenance to deep cleans, our team will keep your firearm in peak shape.

Absolutely. Ask us about our annual gun cleaning memberships — perfect for busy shooters who want reliable service without the hassle.

Yes. We specialize in cleaning and restoring firearms that have seen extended storage or heavy use. We’ll inspect, clean, and lubricate to get them back in safe working condition.

 

A basic cleaning includes disassembly, wipe-down, and lubrication. A deep clean goes further — full breakdown, carbon removal, detailed inspection, and reassembly for peak performance.

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are recommended for same-day or faster turnaround. Feel free to call ahead so we can have your service ready on time.

You’ll find us at 8070 FM 2673, Canyon Lake, TX 78133 — just minutes from Comal Park.

We currently offer layaway options. Please call or visit the store for terms and availability.

 

Yes. We accept firearm trade-ins and will evaluate your item in-store to offer fair market value toward another purchase.
